I’m one of those really strange people who hates the status quo. If I become comfortable with a system or product then it’s time to change it up, stop using it or find an alternative. There are always ways to tweak, modify and optimize everything in life and in my humble opinion that can only be done by consistent change. And that brings me to my RSS reader.I’ve become comfortable with Google Reader!Google Reader is great. I can whip through hundreds and hundreds of blog posts every day, find everything I’m looking for an still have time for dinner. Problem is that I’ve become so used to it that I’m bored with it now. It’s time to shake things up and try something new. I did that once before when I moved from Bloglines to Google Reader and I think it may be time to do it again. There’s only one problem: I have no idea which reader to use! After doing a bit of research it seems that Google Reader is actually one of the if not the best RSS reader platforms out there. This is a problem for someone who wants to change for no good reason. What should I do? What RSS reader should I start looking at? Should I move back to Bloglines, try NewsGator again or something completely different? It needs to be useful, sleek, sexy and fast. I figured I would ask the community on this one and see what everyone else has to say. Thoughts?Oh, and this is my first post using Pages ‘08. I used to use Google Docs and Spreadsheets to write up posts, but it was time for a change.

I’m quite the opposite of you - once I get comfortable with something (like Google Reader, which I love), I stick with it and change becomes almost impossible for me. I recently read that Bloglines had made some improvements, maybe try them.
Good luck with your search and let us know what you find!

I currently use Newsfire. I got it as part of the Macheist bundle promotion a while back so it’s not free. Vienna isn’t to bad either and it’s free. I mentioned those because I saw you used a Mac based on the fact you we’re using Pages ‘08/

Give Bloglines a try and let us know what you think. I’m sticking with Google Reader for now, but like some of the features on Bloglines. Also, I’ve noticed some lag on new content hitting Google Reader lately. I’m sure that’s something that will be resolved, but it’s enough to make me restless.

I use GreatNews for my feeds, but Google Reader is the best web-based reader. You may want to check out the new Bloglines beta though, as it is fairly comparable to GR now and has since unique stuff as well.

Some great suggestions. I love the word ‘beta’, it makes me all giddy inside. So far it looks like Bloglines is winning out. I wonder how their beta will work on my iPhone….

I’ve just recently become a Google Reader advocate however I think its already time for me to change. There’s a few small things that drive me absolutely nuts.
GIVE ME SEARCH!
that being said, do any of the other (web) readers give you this ability? I want to search the posts i subscribed to.

Second vote for GreatNews. It’s not web based but its the swiss army knife of feed readers.

As long as you’re just dating, I have no advice, but when you’re ready to settle down, try BlogBridge.

Hey Ben,
I would really recommend News Fire or RSS Reader. Or if you want to get real fancy, try Mozilla Thunderbird! You may think that it is juts an email client, but it is a great RSS Reader as well! I am actually using it right now!
